On November 15th 2009 the Family Group participated in a children's arts workshop as part of the Outburst Queer Arts Festival, in which children were invited along to celebrate their gay families by producing a mural. The mural was made with cloth and the children were shown how to first draw the outline of their picture on paper and then cover it with acetate and paint onto the see through acetate. They then transferred the the drawing from the acetate to the mural fabric by placing it paint down and using a roller to make sure the best colour was transferred. This is the finished product that has a border added to the outside and is now part of the decor at the LASI community space. This workshop was facilitated by New Belfast Community Arts Initiative.
On April 11th 2010 the family group held another children's art workshop in which children were encouraged to come along and make wind socks from plastic, coloured pipe cleaners and stickers etc. Children were also given the opportunity to make and decorate masks using glue, sequins, stickers, markers and pipe cleaners. This workshop was facilitated by New Belfast Community Arts Initiative. |
